For grades 1-8 Discovery we teach from a historical and literature-based theme with four of our classes.  What does this mean for our families? We will have four classes (Literature, History, Cultural Studies, and Writing) that will focus on an historical period each school year. Each of the four classes will make books come to life in many different ways.

At the beginning of the school year you will be given a syllabus for each class. You will always know the homework assignments and class projects taking place each week.

More about enrichment classes

ART, grades 1-8

Art enriches the mind, eyes, heart, and soul and is a major part of all of our lives.  In this incredible course, we not only teach how to make art but to appreciate the process of the creation.  We will learn about various artists throughout history and will then try our hand at their style of work.  Art will be filled with beautiful paintings and colorful pieces as we pour our hearts out in different mediums (oil pastels, chalk, acrylic paint, watercolors, clay etc).

Medieval World History, grades 1-8

This year in History our students will step back in time to the period when exploring was at its best.  We’ll take a journey and experience real-life Medieval history.   We’ll hear poems and songs, learn dances and games, and see pictures of them and their treasures.  We’ll learn about the famous, and not-so-famous, people and places that shaped our world.

This class will follow the Medieval World History theme.

Writing, grades 1-8

This class is dedicated to bringing enjoyment to a subject that is often misunderstood.  Based on the wonderful books read in the World History-themed classes, the students will write about them in the most entertaining ways.  From creating dioramas to writing plays, to becoming their favorite character, they will have a reason to write.  We’ll make it fun and we’ll help them to sharpen their skills.  No matter if your child is an experienced writer or a beginner, this class will give them a reason to want to put their thoughts into words.

This class will follow the Medieval World History theme.

STEM, grades 1-8

STEM teaches hands-on learning through science, technology, engineering, and math.  Whether using Legos, wind, tangrams, water, sand, blocks, cords, pvc, or a host of other materials, the students will be encouraged to think outside the box.  Working alone and in groups, they will build and solve problems of all sizes.  This class is problem-solving at its best!

Home Economics, grades 1-8

They will learn cooking and will be preparing their own meals, as well as meals for some very special guests.  Learning the proper way to set a table, cleaning, laundry, and etiquette will make this life skills class so much fun. We will study health, fitness, and exercise, and even do some PE.  Students are taught sewing basics as we work with fabric, buttons, felt, ribbons, and more!  Even bringing home adorable sewn creations!
